The all-new BMW M5 Touring arrives with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor that combines to deliver a massive 727hp and 1,000Nm of torque. While it is the heavy hitter of the group at 2,475kg, that 8-speed automatic gearbox and instant electric torque might just be enough to offset that huge weight. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid rounds out the grid as the most powerful car here, boasting a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid setup that generates a staggering 782hp and 1,000Nm of torque. It uses a lightning-fast 8-speed automatic transmission to manage all that power, and despite its high-end luxury, it is ready to give the others a real run for their money. First up, Mat pays a visit to Bugatti. Guided by one of Bugatti’s lead designers, he has to navigate a world of limitless carbon fibre, ‘standard’ paint jobs that cost more than a house, and a whole load of bespoke specifications which include adding 8(!) exhaust tips to the rear of the car! The question is, will he go for something sleek and minimalist, or will he choose to go for something that screams opulence? As a reminder, the Tourbillon is powered by an 8.3-litre naturally aspirated V16 + 3 electric motors, and these combine to produce 1,800hp. It redlines at 9,000rpm, and it has a top speed of 276mph! Then, things get personal. Mat heads to Gordon Murray Automotive to spec the T.50, and he’s not just talking to a salesperson - he’s sitting down with the legend himself, Gordon Murray! This is the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1, where every gram of weight is scrutinised. From the fan-assisted aero to the centre-seat driving position, Gordon guides Mat through the art of perfection through lightness, while also offering his own recommendations to Mat’s choices. He’ll also reveal his own bespoke T.50 specification at the end of the video! The T.50 is powered by a 3.9-litre Cosworth V12, and it weighs in at only 997kg! It redlines at an incredible 12,100rpm, and it’ll come as no surprise that it’s only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox! So one is a V16 hybrid monster, while the other is a lightweight V12 masterpiece focused on the pure connection between driver and road. The question is, which will Mat prefer?
